1 Seminar模式

Seminar的意思是“研討會(huì)”,英語(yǔ)解釋為:“Seminar is a small group of advanced students in a college or graduate school engaged in original research or intensive study under the guidance of a professor who meet regularly with them to discuss the reports and findings.”Seminar是現(xiàn)今廣泛流行于歐、美、日、澳等發(fā)達(dá)國(guó)家和地區(qū)高等學(xué)校和研究機(jī)構(gòu)的一種基本的教學(xué)科研方法,是學(xué)生為研究某一問(wèn)題而與教師、專家共同討論的一種交互式教學(xué)路徑。在Seminar教學(xué)模式中,學(xué)生圍繞話題內(nèi)容做各項(xiàng)工作,積極參與討論,培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的自學(xué)能力、訓(xùn)練學(xué)生的口頭表達(dá)能力和提高他們的綜合應(yīng)用能力。

2 Seminar模式引入大二英語(yǔ)精讀課堂的可行性

Seminar教學(xué)模式適用學(xué)科廣泛,在國(guó)外的不同教學(xué)體系中廣泛應(yīng)用。我國(guó)的Seminar教學(xué)模式多用于研究生階段的研究性教學(xué),或者是某學(xué)科的專業(yè)英語(yǔ)課堂之中,在大學(xué)英語(yǔ)教學(xué)中Seminar教學(xué)模式的嘗試還較少。事實(shí)上,本科是研究型和學(xué)科型教育,在英語(yǔ)課堂中學(xué)生只是被動(dòng)地聆聽(tīng)教師精講課文,記錄一些詞句的意思是遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)不夠的。本文的Seminar教學(xué)模式定位于大學(xué)二年級(jí),這是因?yàn)閷W(xué)生之前進(jìn)行了一年的英語(yǔ)基礎(chǔ)學(xué)習(xí),掌握了基本詞匯,鞏固了語(yǔ)法知識(shí)。通過(guò)四級(jí)考試的學(xué)生傾向于提高自己的聽(tīng)說(shuō)能力,以及自身語(yǔ)言應(yīng)用能力,而且學(xué)生已經(jīng)互相熟悉,消除了陌生感和膽怯心理,上臺(tái)發(fā)言能夠更加自如。

Seminar模式的基本形式是每個(gè)學(xué)生準(zhǔn)備一個(gè)談話內(nèi)容,并就這個(gè)內(nèi)容做好充分的準(zhǔn)備,包括查尋有關(guān)資料,準(zhǔn)備演講材料和可能碰到的問(wèn)題,學(xué)生將自己準(zhǔn)備好的話題進(jìn)行陳述,并回答和解釋其他學(xué)生的問(wèn)題和質(zhì)疑。這種教學(xué)不同于學(xué)生被動(dòng)學(xué)習(xí)的傳統(tǒng)模式,把英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)主動(dòng)權(quán)交給學(xué)生,能夠提高學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)熱情,促進(jìn)英語(yǔ)教學(xué)工作。同時(shí),Seminar模式不僅要求學(xué)生能聽(tīng)得懂、讀得懂,還要求他們講得明、寫得好,彌補(bǔ)了傳統(tǒng)講授法的不足,從整體上發(fā)展學(xué)生的四種基本能力,促進(jìn)聽(tīng)、說(shuō)、讀、寫、譯各項(xiàng)技能協(xié)調(diào)發(fā)展。在完成Seminar的任務(wù)中,學(xué)生利用課外時(shí)間完成大量的工作,共同討論問(wèn)題,培養(yǎng)和訓(xùn)練學(xué)生探索問(wèn)題和解決問(wèn)題的能力。

總之,Seminar模式使學(xué)生自然而然地運(yùn)用科學(xué)研究的方法,經(jīng)歷科學(xué)研究的過(guò)程,培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的科研能力,這對(duì)學(xué)生高年級(jí)的專業(yè)學(xué)習(xí)很有幫助,它被引入到本科英語(yǔ)教學(xué)中具有現(xiàn)實(shí)意義。

3 Seminar模式教學(xué)實(shí)踐

課前準(zhǔn)備 在大二新學(xué)期一開始就將全班學(xué)生分成幾組,每組選組長(zhǎng)一名,組長(zhǎng)負(fù)責(zé)安排、協(xié)調(diào)各組員的具體任務(wù)。在課本新單元學(xué)習(xí)前一周,教師根據(jù)單元教學(xué)內(nèi)容擬定相關(guān)的主題,告之并引導(dǎo)學(xué)生提前閱讀教材,搜集并整理與文章內(nèi)容有關(guān)的信息資料,鼓勵(lì)學(xué)生發(fā)散性思維,暢所欲言,提煉自己小組的觀點(diǎn),并形成文字材料。

例如,學(xué)校精讀課上使用的是上海外語(yǔ)教育出版社的教材《全新版大學(xué)英語(yǔ)》綜合教程,在講授第一單元課文“Mr. Doherty Builds His Dream Life”時(shí),筆者就擬定了一個(gè)相關(guān)主題“City life vs. Country life”,要求學(xué)生查找資料,對(duì)兩種生活方式進(jìn)行對(duì)比。

Seminar模式強(qiáng)調(diào)學(xué)生的自主型學(xué)習(xí),將傳統(tǒng)的“講授式”課堂轉(zhuǎn)化為“講授+討論式”二元結(jié)構(gòu)模式。在Seminar模式的課堂中,筆者并不是一開始就滔滔不絕地講“城市生活和鄉(xiāng)村生活”,而是將這個(gè)話題拋給學(xué)生,讓學(xué)生利用課外時(shí)間分工合作,主動(dòng)地去收集相關(guān)的背景材料。學(xué)生由單詞到詞組、由短語(yǔ)到句子,最后把手頭的資料進(jìn)行分類整合,討論形成該組的發(fā)言報(bào)告。除了文字材料,學(xué)生還被鼓勵(lì)查找圖片,插入音樂(lè)、聲音,下載視頻,制作成生動(dòng)活潑的PowerPoint進(jìn)行展示。這一系列的活動(dòng)鍛煉了學(xué)生的動(dòng)手能力,在完成英語(yǔ)任務(wù)的同時(shí)也提高了他們的電腦應(yīng)用水平。

可以看出,Seminar模式的核心內(nèi)容是教師以培養(yǎng)學(xué)生實(shí)踐運(yùn)用能力為主旨,訓(xùn)練學(xué)生進(jìn)行研究式學(xué)習(xí),培養(yǎng)學(xué)生合作互助精神,在完成任務(wù)的同時(shí)學(xué)會(huì)英語(yǔ)思維。
