The Journal Of Experimental Political Science is an influential academic journal in the field of political science that focuses on publishing cutting-edge research using experimental methods or experimental reasoning based on naturally occurring data. The journal defines experimental methods very broadly, including studies that randomly (or quasi-randomly) assign subjects to different treatment groups in order to separate causality in the political realm. It covers all types of experiments conducted in political science research, including survey experiments, laboratory experiments, field experiments, laboratory field experiments, natural experiments, and neural experiments.

Authors are encouraged to submit concise articles that address the research topic directly. Journals do not require lengthy explanations and arguments of experimental methods, nor do they expect extensive literature reviews of the pros and cons of the methodological approaches involved in experiments, unless the goal of the article is to explore these methodological issues. JEPS expects readers to be familiar with experimental methods, so it does not require extensive literature reviews to convince them that experimental methods are a legitimate methodological approach. JEPS also considers longer articles where appropriate, such as when introducing and discussing new experimental methods or methods, or evaluating new theoretical results through experiments.
