Thisweekwecelebratethe80thbirthdayofoneofthemostrespectedpeopleofourtimes,whosesenseofdutyandservicehashadaprofoundimpactonourcountry,theCommonwealthandtheworld.

Shehasalsorespondedtoaworldthathasbecomemoreinterdependentthaneverbytravellingextensively.Inall,theQueenhasundertakenover256officialoverseasvisitsto129differentcountries.HerMajestyshowsnosignofslowingdown.Shehasjustundertakenher14thtourofAustralia,includingtheofficialopeningoftheCommonwealthgamesinMelbourne.Sheattendshundredsofpublicengagementseveryyearandisanactivepatronofover620charitiesandorganisations.Thereissimplynoaspectofournationallifewhichshedoesnothaveaninterestinandadeepunderstandingof.
